Always sleepy

Question
Hi Karel,

I would like you to help me in what I always feel; sleepy. I try as much as I can to sleep within order and prevent sleeping disorder, but sometimes it happens. Also, during my day, while I'm try to study in the Library, I'm always sleepy. Caffeine don't do much.

One of the things I would like to know is:

-Mostly I have sleeping disorder during my exams or a busy period of work or during a long distance flight with Jet lag. How long does it take for my body to regain back the sleeping order without feeling sleepy during the day? Also, are there any advices on which I can prevent sleeping disorder, or preventing my sleepy period during the day?

If I feel sleepy during the day, shall I have a nap or no? I'm not the type of the person who take naps, unless I'm really tired.

Another thing is that I sleep very deeply and I have 3 alarms in my room to wake me up, which don't their job.

I would be really thankful for your help and support.

Answer
First of all if this interferes with your normal activities you may have narcolepsy,my first suggestion is to go to a sleep disorder unit and be tested. I say this because you say caffeine does not help. Also taking naps during the day but everyday at the same time can be helpful but only for l5 or 20 minutes no more. If you find you need more than one nap a day,i strongly suggest you contact a sleep center. good luck, karel
