I sleep like the dead?

Question
Hi Karel,

I have a big problem!

When I sleep, it seems like I was dead.

Although someone or something is trying to wake me up, it seems I may not be awake unless there's an earthquake, fire, robbery, or the such.

Compared with my other family members, they'll usually be aware of when I wake them up - sometimes I simply need to hold part of their body and they're awake; or something being moved or is moving around them - for example, a cat jumping nearby...

Even if I can wake up, that would only be after many attempts of waking me up, and I'll usually become (very) angry.

In addition, if for example my brother went to sleep late in the dawn, he could still wake up as early as 6 in the morning. Whereas if I sleep in the night after 12 hours, I usually will only wake up at 7.30 am. If after 1 am, between the hours of 8 to 9 am. If after 2 am, between the hours of 9 to 10 am. And so on ...

What's worse is, there are times where even if I sleep (very) early in the night, I STILL become the last to wake up in the morning!!!

Please advise.

Regards and thanks.

Answer
Try having 2 alarm clocks set to wake up to music in different ends of the room so that you have to get out of the bed to shut it off.   If your daytime wakefulness is affected you could be suffering from narcolepsy.  Go to sleepnet.com click on disorders narcolepsy.  feel free to email again karel
