Question
Hi, I'm Ashley and I have a question regarding insomnia (or whatever else it may be). My boyfriend has the desire to sleep and the physical ability but not the mental ability. He suffers from hellish nightmares every night that effect his daily life sometimes.Hes seeked professional and alternitive help from various physicians, psychologists, and other people who seem to share the same problem. My question is, what is this problem and how can it be cured? I want to say it's insomnia, but isnt that when you can't sleep at all? Hes more-less just afraid to close his eyes. He's 18, and hes been suffering from this problem his whole life for as long as he can remember. Please email me if you know of anything or anyone that can help. Thanks..
Answer
the only thing i can suggest,is that he go to a Sleep center and be tested for a sleeping disorder,to have nightmares is in itself a sleeping disorder, many psychiatrist, never even heard of narcolepsy which is the uncontrollable urge to go to sleep but one of its syptoms is nightmares.what happens with nightmares is the person usually falls asleep too quickly before the body and brain relaxes, therefore one is sort of sleeping with his or her eyes and brain still awake, however only a sleep pysician can evaluate this with an allnight eeg.also sometimes certain medications can do this ,it could be the dosage.i suggest he ask his physician to get his sleep evaluateD.im sorry i cant be of further help and hope this helps a little,i am not a physician but am 47 yrs old myself and suffer from narcolepsy, however when i was younger i too had psychological problems due to the fact some md told me id die from narcolepsy which was so untrue.you live too a ripe old age.but psychological problems can seem worse if one has a sleeping disorder and with a sleeping disorder undiagnosed,it in itself from not having proper sleep can create psychological problems as well.perhaps if your boyfriend does have a sleep problem he cAN GET MEDICATION AND THAT IN ITSELF CAN HELP HIS PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS.GOOD LUCK,,FEEL FREE TO WRITE ANYTIME.KAREL
