Sleep deprevation & learning

Question
I did my science project on sleep deprevation. My subjects were kept awake as much as possible over a 72 hour period. I'm having trouble finding out why my subjects did better on the multiplication quizzing, done every two hours, when they they were more tired (after dark and late at night)than in the morning after a limited amount of sleep.

Answer
My guess would be that their chronobiological clock was being recalibrated.and since the time they were allowed to sleep was so little, also there brains thought it was night time to them then, as opposed to even though they were more tired after dark there brains thought it was daytime.I do hope this makes some sense, for better explanations go to sleepnet.com under sleep disorders insomnia or chronobiologic clock.feel free to email again.happy holidays.
