Answer
What you are experiencing is normal phenomenon called sleep paralysis and hypnangogic hallucinations , however when or if your daytime alertness is affected by it then it couuld be narcolepsy.  The body and brain are supposed to awaken and go to sleep together however once in awhile there is a lag of a nano second and so you are dreaming with your eyes open, your body is still asleep unable to move dreams can be so vivid and frightening.   But just knowing its normal may help. also you might try 3 hours beefore your bedtime stay away from caffeine, tea, alcohol, coffee, caramel colored soda like coke, pepsi, gingerale, root beer, chocolate and exercise all these make for restless sleep. 30 minutes before bedtime take a hot bath to relasx immersing hands underwater especially palms, latest research is that nerves in palms send signal to brain to get ready for sleep and l5 minutes before bedtime drink a glass of warm plain milk. Milk when heated contains tryptophan a natural amino acid sleep inducer.  go to sleepnet. com click on disorders narcolepsy and read about sleep paralysis and hypnanagogic hallucinations.  but relax its normal, only if daytime sleep is affected is it a sleep disorder, feel free to email again karel
