Question
I am writing to you to ask a question regarding chewing my tongue!
I have done this quite a lot in my life, i got into trouble in school as my teachers thought i was eating in class when i was doing it!
Anyway, my mum always told me i did this because i was tired, and was not getting enough sleep, and as an adult, i do agree with her philosophy!
However, i have heard recently on many web sites that this is an anxiety or stress related issue
So, my question is, do people chew their tongue because of stress and anxiety, or because of sleepiness, or can both things be something to consider?
Thanx for any help you can give, i do understand i may be posting this question in the wrong topic, but i thought sleep disorder would be my best option!

Answer
Stress and anxiety however if you do it in your sleep it could be a form of a sleep seizure at which time you would need to see a neurologist. You might consider telling your md to be on some anti aniety meds, or tey some relaxation technicques to calm down.
