Recovery

Question
Hi again,

That was Really helpful. I only said less than that because I know some people can sleep maybe five and feel great all day, then again they exercise daily. I appreciate the caffeine and chocolate comment (I don't drink), but I was wondering what may actually help me do the opposite and get a better rest.

Thanks.

Question -

Hi,

I used to have a very hard time getting to sleep a couple of years ago. Finally I started to find ways to get over the stress of the day and finally go to sleep. During those days I would get about four hours of sleep maybe, and function at about 80% (not all the way rested). Nowadays, I can sleep for a small amount (4-6) and feel rested, but perked up and unable to concentrate.

My body now has "programmed" itself to sleep no less than seven hours, no matter what important things I may have to do during the day. It also takes me about 45 minutes to get up each morning (while half awake).

I was wondering if there was any way that you knew of that may be able to help me get about six hours of sleep or less and feel fully rested (I have very long days: work, school, family, and I am currently trying to integrate a workout now and then). Also of a way to get up faster in the mornings. Will I have to train myself to do this also?

Whatever advice you can give me would be great. Thank you in advance.

everyone should get at least 6 hours of sleep so i would not suggest getting less, sleep is the bodys own way of letting the brain rest.as far as getting up on time, many find if they put the alarm clock on another part of the  room where they must get up to shut it off, helps, also stay away from chocolate or caffeine,or alcohol 2 hours before bed,it will only make sleep more restless, hope this helps feel free to write again, karel

Answer
To get better rest do not exercise at night or 2 hours before bedtime because contrary to most people exercise makes your sleep quality poorer not better.as far as sleeping less but better quality i can just say make sure the room is dark,no noise or distraction.and what i said in my last reply about the caffeine and chocolate, as far as sleeping less, if the brain requires you to sleep 6 or 8 hours i dont know what else you can do to sleep less but better quality, changing ones sleep cycle after many years may at times lead to poor mental alertness, irritability etc,my advise although im not a medical doctor is to just leave your cycle to as normal it is to what your body needs, hope this helps feel free to write again, karel
