sleep disorder

Question
Hello,In fact I cannot call my case a sleep disorder ,but since I could not find any other suitable title for it,I selected this title. You know,it all began around five years ago,and it has happend to me five or six times since then(in irregular intervals). The case is that when I am sleeping, suddnely ,I find myself afloat in the air!It is cmpletely different from dreaming.I have the sort of feeling that my soul has come out of my body.I remember the first time it happened,I found myself afloat and moving upward toward the roof of the room.I could not help moving upward.I felt like a bubble!(lack of space)

Answer
What your describing is part of a sleep disorder though happens to all of us a few times in our lifetime. It could be part of Narcoleps, which has 2 symptoms ,one is sleep paralysis, which is when your either about to awaken or fall off to sleep, the inability to not move for about 10 seconds. The next one is hypnagognic hallucinations, which als happens to us a few times, just before going to sleep. The normal person takes about 60-90 minutes to have their brain relaz then go into rem rapid eye movement, however with hypnagognic hallucinations, ones body falls asleep before thew body can relax and you go right into rem. When this occurs youre dreaming with your eyes open. The dreams can be very scary. They do give antidepressants like tofranil to control these symptoms, however if these symptoms happen regularly I would speak to your md about a sleep evaluation. For more reading on these 2 symptoms,Go to these websites,Sleepnet.com ,click on narcolepsy, under narcolepsy you will find these symptoms explain better. Please feel free to email again, karel
