Question
Hi I an unusual question. My mom just told me that I whin while I am sleeping. So I was wondering what could cause me to do that? I am bipolar and I have OCD so I am on 4 diffent medications. Trazadone, Lamictal, Seroquel, and Lexapro. I read that anti-depressants cause vivid dreams, which I have found to be true. I have always been able to remember many my dreams and after I started taking medications the dreams became much more detailed and clearer when I woke up. I don't have nice happy dreams, my dreams tend to dwell on what I am worring about. Always my dreams are very disturbing.
If you have any ideas about why I whin in my sleep I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Donna
Answer
From my being on antidepressants for my narcolepsy,i do know that they suppress the rem sleep or the dreaming to a point, but because we need to dream ,the antidepressants can hold the rem back for just so long and then the rem slips through in dribs and drabs when this happens, one would whine, even have frightening dreams, If this persists I suggest you ask your doctor perhaps you need to change your meds or up the dose but first ask him, usually it passes and then your good for another month or two,but we all need to dream,so science has not found a medicine to hold back the dreams l00%. I hope this helps, feel free to write again. Also make sure you dont have any caffeine, chocolate, or alcohol,at least 2 hours before bedtime as sometimes that too would make your sleep restless and bring on the breakthrough dreaming. good luck, karel
