Question
hi karel,
i hope you could advise me on this.
i'm 28 years old chinese female. will be getting married end
of this year. i was retrenched by my company last month. as
i need to spend money for my upcoming wedding and i dont
have a job now, it really increases my stress level. my
fiance is working, but i can't solely depend on him for the
wedding expenses.
i am looking for jobs thru various methods i.e. online and
newspaper. but as the economy is rather slow these days, all
i can do is apply for jobs and wait.
i usually sleep around 1am. but, my mind is still very
active and i'll be thinking a lot of things. in the end, i
only managed to sleep around 4am. and i'll wake up around
1pm, with headache, tired and exhausted. i didnt take
afternoon naps. i usually have my dinner at around 7pm and
finish by 8pm.
because of this "insomnia", my complexion is getting worse.
i tend to get pimples on my face often, and will have red
pimple marks after that. and bcos of this, i'm worried that
i will not look nice on my wedding day. so many things to
worry.
i'm thinking of buying sleeping pills/supplements from the
pharmacy or some chinese herbs from the chinese medicine
shops. but i'm afraid of the side effects.
pls advise!
Answer
Congratulations on the wedding, no wonder your having sleep issues, wedding and money will do it to you. But you go to relax and just take one thing at a time to concentrate on. try follwing these tips.
You must go to bed and awaken the same time each day regardless of little or much
sleep you got the night before. This starts to reset your sleep clock
3 hours before bedtime stay away from
tea, coffee, caffeine, caramel colored soda like, coke, pepsi, ginger ale,
or root beer, chocolate and exercise .All these make for restless sleep.Do the following religiously for 4-6 weeks although some have seen changes in as little as 2 weeks.
Make sure room is quiet and dark. When you go to bed if you start to
twist and turn or if you wake up in the middle of the night and cant
go back to sleep, twist and turn for only 20 minutes, then get up, go
into a different room and read a book or magazine only! No computer!
When you start to doze immediately go back into the bedroom. This retrains
the brain into thinking that the bedroom is for restful sleep only. Do
this as many times as you awaken thru the night, it will lesson.
30 minutes before bedtime take a hot bath and immerse hands under the
water.Latest research states that the palms of the hand when immersed
in hot water send signals to the brain to relax. 15 minutes before bedtime\
drink a glass of warm milk. Milk when heated contains tryptophan, a
natural amino acid sleep inducer. Go to sleepnet.com click on disorders
