night shaking

Question
QUESTION: Hello Dr.Sleis,

I am a 25 yr old healthy female. For the past couple of months i have been waking up because of my arms shaking. Not just trembling, but moving back and forth quickly. I do not have any history of sleep problems or any other problems. Have you heard of this night shaking? It only happens at night and it stops when i wake up. What is this and should i go to my doctor?

Thankyou,

Mary Ellen

QUESTION: Thankyou doctor,

What is a motor seizure?

I will definitely see my doc

Answer
Im not an md a resp. therapist a motor seizure is a form of epilepsy but can happen to just one part of the body yet it comes from the brain,  the neurologist can explain it better if that is what you have , it may not be, but any twitching involuntarily from awakening from sleep or if it just starts up in the day for no reason seizures /epilepsy have to be ruled out, but there are tons of meds to help control it if it is.  feel free to email again karel
