Question
Hi, I've had what i think sleep paralysis for a few years now. I always dream about not being able to wake up. I try to wake up by concentrating hard on it and sometimes i'm able to 'break' out of the dream. However, it takes alot of mental energy and everytime i wake up, i feel exhausted. I get this frequently when I nap in the daytime or when I fall asleep again after waking up. Can you tell me if this is indeed sleep paralysis and if i should see a doc about it?
Answer
If it happens once in awhile its normal phenomenon, however when it happens frequently and your daytime alertness is being affected, then you should visit a sleep center to have your sleep evaluated. Mainly the meds given are antidepressants but in baby dosages as what it does is hold back the dreaming. Your local hospital can refer you to a sleep center. feel free to email again karel
