Question
I'm 45 yr old female. About 1 1/2 years ago i started waking myself up while drifting off by an involuntary single hum while exhaling. This only happened while sleeping on my back. Recently it has started happening while sleeping on my side as well. It is making it nearly impossible to get to sleep. What is the cause of this and how can i stop it. It is not snoring at all but humming....I'm not overweight nor do I have sleep apnea...
Answer
If you had a study showing you dont have sleep apnea, then I can tell you what this is. I suggest you consult a sleep center especially if your daytime alertness is being affected . However since you said its upon exhaling, you might want to consult with an ear nose and throat doctor for possible sinus trouuble . I also would sleep elevated to see if that helps, feel free to email again karel
