Sleep disorder

Question
I am a teenager that is finding it hard to sleep at night. Sometimes I am not able to sleep for the most about 3 hours even though I feel tired and sleepy. What could I do about this problem?

Answer
First of all stay away from the following things at least 3 hours before bedtime, alcohol, chocolate, coke, pepsi, anything caramel colored, caffeine, coffee ,tea, and exercise. All these things can disrupt sleep if taken too close to bedtime.Go to bed and wake up the same time each day regardless if you had any sleep the night before. If you are awake in bed dont stay in the bed twisting and turning.Get up and do something boring. If all else fails, ask your physician about going to a sleep center. You can also try short term melatonin, which is in a health food store, but ask your doctor first,im not sure of the dose, but pure melatonin is .3mg.also hot milk contains tryptophan, believe it or not which also puts one too sleep. What you must do is reprogram your chronobiologic clock.Go to the website sleep net.com ,click on insomnia .Hope this helps feel free to write again, karel
