sleep

Question
Very seldom I have trouble sleeping. But when I do after 2 or 3 days with no sleep I am not really tired but I tend to have some different problems. twitching, almost tremors, paranoia, feeling of dying, walking in thin air,and dizziness. I know when it time to go to bed but for instance sometimes I need to go to work and I dont have a choice . I usually start freaking out and obsess on the fact that I havn't slept and I'm suprised I havent had a heart-attack or became retarded or something. Is their anything I can do in these situations to calm myself, like eat well or try to mediate or something, etc. I would appreciate your help. Thanx.

P.S. Is trying really hard to fall asleep, like closing your eyes and listening to your breathing, in any way close to actually sleeping.

Answer
2 or 3 days with no sleep would make you have all that anxiety as our brains need to sleep.I suggest you stay away from caffeine, cola, pepsi, chocolate, and exercise 3 hours before your bedtime.Go to sleep and wake up the same times even if you didnt sleep that night before get out of the bed.Dont stay in the bed twisting and turning,th bed must be associated with sleep only. out of bed and do something boring like reading a book,if you find yourself falling asleep on the sofa go into the bed. Also the old9 adage drink warm milk before bed really does work, warm milk has tryptophan and can help you sleep. If you do this and still have those 2-3 days with no sleep go to a sleep center for an evaluation. Now when you get those days, the only thing to do is to do relaxing things for example, soft music, reading,a hot bath, and the warm milk.Just put in your mind that your headed for a wonderful night sleep even though you did not sleep for 2 days, also you can take over the counter melatonin, but ask your doctor and you can only take it once in a while, as if you do its somewhat adicting and if you miss it can cause rebound, they sell it in a helath food store, like gnc you take i believe its.3 mg one or two hours before sleep its said to adjust your sleep cycle, but as stated  before ask your physician first.Feel free to email again.Hope you get some goodZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs karel
