treatment of hypnagogic hallucinations

Question
Hi,

I don't seem to have any symptoms at all of narcolepsy, however, I have MAJOR hypnogogic hallucinations.  They usually occur in the morning after 5:30am (after a brief awakening) when I try to go back to sleep.  However, sometimes they happen earlier than that.  It is happening everynight lately.  Mine are TERRIFYING.  It is getting to the point where I won't go to sleep because I don't want to experience this.  I am not on any medication.  Do you know if there is a way to make this stop?

Thanks

Michelle

Answer
unfortunately no way to make hallucinations stop other than by med. they are caused because your going immediately into rem the dreaming state before your head hits the pillow.the only way i know to stop is to take tofranil or another antidepressant as they hold back the dreaming state however we need to dream to refresh our boides so they hold them back for a couple of months but still one or two would sneak out because we need the rem. if you are having these hallucinations, i believe there is a disorder called rem sleep disorder, i urgently suggest you get a test at a sleep center to rule out rem disorder, narcolepsy or hypersomnia, good luck and take care karel
