Question
I have a few questions...
What is the most recommended Med for Narcolepsy?
What should a narcoleptics sleep schedule be?
Shoudl he/she take naps during the day?
What are the symptoms of Narcolepsy?
Answer
Larely the most recommended med is provigil known as modafanil has less cardiac effects. However the next 3 are ritalin, dexedrine and cylert.this is for the sleepiness. for the cataplexy loss of muscle control now prozac, also tofranil and desimipramine.yes naps taken avoids in mild cases less sleepiness, however no more than 20 minute naps as any longer would interfere with night time sleep.if you go to a website called sleepnet and click on narcolepsy it will go into symptoms, the first is sleep attacks-uncontrollable urge to fall asleep at inappropriate times, driving a car, in the middle of a sentence. 2. cataplexy complete or total loss of muscle tone when you show emotions, laughter, crying, anger, pain. you never lose consciousness youre awake but cant move or speak.3. hypnangogic hallucinations big word for bad terrifying dreams because narcoleptics hit the pillow and start dreaming their bodies dont cool down as normals, therefore their brain sort of goes asleep before the body does. 4. sleep paralysis-unable to move for a few seconds upon awakening or going to sleep. Many times this happens to normal people. like when the alarm clock rings for school and you want to move and shut it off but for a split second cannot move.email me if anything further.karel
